3 Toxins to avoid, eliminate and detox How our deodorants, salads and hand products are harming us and what to do about it.

Uncategorized Mar 01, 2021

No matter how we spin it, the primary cause of disease is a failure to adapt to our lifestyle and environmental stressors.

We’re made for adaptation but often, our physical, chemical, emotional and electromagnetic stresses can overwhelm our ability to keep up with our adaptation needs and our nervous systems begin to malfunction. (Chiropractic care is so important because it helps with adaptation).

We do, however have to check ourselves before we wreck ourselves when it comes to what toxins and stressors we allow ourselves to be exposed to.  Epigenetics experts have found that 80% of us have chronic disease, specifically because of our lifestyle choices.

Being that we’re surrounded by toxic choices, being intentional about the toxins we avoid to empower us to trust in our innate propensity to heal and thrive.  This is a much more certain option than helplessly feeling at the mercy of the Russian roulette of what happens once we can no longer adapt.

The chemicals we ingest, the chemicals we put on our skin, the chemicals we’re exposed to environmentally (especially right now with all the chemical sanitizing), and the chemicals in our water are the ones we have “some” control over.  Because we can’t be in control of all stressor that come our way, it behooves us to focus on eliminating those which can specifically be identified and avoided.

Although the list is a mile long, the following is a good start.  Actually, this particular list of offenders will win the race every-time, unless we get a head start.

                                                                 ALUMINUM

Why is aluminum so harmful?  Our vagus nerve is the mac daddy of nerves when it comes to digestion, neurological function, respiration and heart beat.   This nerve also contributes to production of Purkinge cells which reside in the cerebellum (the back lower part of the brain).  Purkinge cells help with our emotional well being and with our ability to make rational and healthy decisions. It has been found that those with Autism Spectrum Disorder have a 40X fold chance of having an affected cerebellum, specifically Purkinge cell damage.

Aluminum is known to harm our Purkinge cells which causes neurological damage.  Aluminum plaquing, for example, has been found in the brains of those with Alzheimers.

Common sources of aluminum which are easily avoidable include:

- Baking powder (look for aluminum free).  I like Bob’s Redmill and Rumford’s aluminum     free baking powders.

- Deodorant (look for aluminum free).  Beware all anti-perspirants.

- Antacids

- Shampoos and Conditioners (read the ingredients)

- Lotions (read ingredients)

- Processed cheese

-  Cake mix

- Food coloring like red #40 and yellow #5.

                                                                VACCINES

18 of our vaccines have Aluminum as an ingredient.  This is particularly concerning    because when aluminum is ingested, only 0.1-0.2% of the aluminum is absorbed into the body because the lining of our gut serves as a primary defense.  When aluminum is injected (as with vaccinations) however, absorption is considerably greater and much more dangerous.  It’s also important to note that safe levels for aluminum intake as per the FDA implies ingestion and not injection.  Please also note that aluminum IS in many flu vaccines and therefore, many of us are exposed yearly for life.

One of the best ways to detox Aluminum is with Organic Flax Seed oil.  This is simple, affordable and available.   Please see the resource sections below for specific recommendations.

GLYPHOSATES:

Zach MD, a microbiome expert says that the state of our health is a direct reflection of the state of our global microbiome.  Our personal microbiome is made up of 3 trillion beneficial bugs (bacteria), which creates our body’s ecosystem.  The more diverse and rich our personal ecosystem, the more harmonious our relationship can be with our environment, including anything that comes our way.  There are current studies looking at how the different immune system responses to Covid 19 exposure may reside in the state of our individual microbiomes.

Our microbiome, in part, supports the lining of our digestive system.  Our intestinal lining is woven into “tight junctions”.  These junctions are meant to create tight seals which protects our blood stream from food particles.  When our microbiome becomes altered, our tight junctions become compromised the seals become abnormally weak.  This results in whole food particles passing from our digestive system into our blood stream.  This “leaky gut" is thought to be connected to auto-immune disease, immune system compromise and chronic inflammation.

Glyphosates, which are found in Monsanto’s “Round Up” cause tight junction compromise, which inevitably leads to sickness and disease.

The World Health Organization’s International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) ruled glyphosate a carcinogen.

Due the high levels of glyphosates in our water, in non GMO foods, and anytime we eat GMO foods and any crop sprayed with Round Up (not to mention cross contamination), our tight junctions are affected.  Worldwide, 9.4 million tons of the chemical has been sprayed on fields that’s enough to spray nearly half a pound of Roundup on every cultivated acre of land in the world.

We can reduce and eliminate glyphosate exposure by eating an all organic diet.  We think we’re doing a great job by eating that salad or that apple but it’s very misleading if it was grown under a shower of Round up.  Look up your community CSA’s (Community Supported Agriculture) to team up with local organic farmers.  I have found this to be easier, less expensive and much more pleasant and enriching than grocery store shopping for produce.  Seek out and support your local farmer’s markets.  Re-establishing a relationship with our local soils is the key to overall health.

Zach MD, created a gut-strengthening, brain-boosting mineral supplement sourced from 60-million-year-old soil that naturally supports microbiome balance.  This product is documented to help heal tight junction and leaky gut compromise.    Please see the resource section below for a specific link.

HAND SANITIZER

I’ve thought of this a lot lately because, well, every time I walk into a store, I’m asked to practically bathe in it.

My kids are also returning to in person school next week and I know that they're going to be asked to “sanitize” several times per day.  I will absolutely be sending them in with their own hand sanitizer and here’s why.

Hand sanitizers are mainly made up of ethanol, isopropyl alcohols and hydrogen peroxides in different combinations. These preparations may become toxic to human health and they have known toxic and hazardous impact on environment when released by evaporation.

Ethanol toxicity is also associated with respiratory depression which results into respiratory arrest, hypothermia, heart bean regularity problems with possible cardiac arrest, blood sugar problems and low blood pressure.

Ethanol's potential to cause skin cancer through skin absorption and carcinogenicity is in scientific debate and investigation

“Dermal absorption can lead to the toxic level if someone use ethanol based hand rub for months and several times a day, as currently happening as a result of COVID-19 prevention measure”  -COVID-19 and frequent use of hand sanitizers; human health and environmental hazards by exposure pathways.  Adeel Mahmood et. al,  Science of The Total Environment Vol 72, 10 November 2020.

Children are at more risk by increased usage of hand sanitizers. American Association of Poison Control Center reported 7593 alcoholic hand sanitizer exposure cases in children under the age of 12 years

There are numerous studies showing that alcohol based hand sanitizers can lead to a concerning level of antimicrobial resistance, made worse with frequent use.

Fragranced hand sanitizer should be avoided all together.  That key lime,  red raspberry and lemon poppyseed fragrance is definitely not worth it.  All of these “fragrances” come from chemicals which aren’t required to be listed on the label. Many fragrances have been linked to allergies and hormone disruption.

Here are two recipes for non toxic, effective hand sanitizer.  If you’d rather just buy a safe, non toxic hand sanitizer, please see the recommendations and links below.

RECIPE for hand sanitizer

INGREDIENTS

75 mL isopropyl alcohol (minimum 60%)

5 mL witch hazel

5 mL vitamin E oil

8-10 drops essential oils

INSTRUCTIONS

Using a basic kitchen scale, combine all your ingredients.

Mix and pour into two 2-ounce spray bottles.

Shake well before use and please remember that hand washing (when available is always better)

Alcohol-Free Hand Sanitizer

1/2 cup pure aloe vera gel

1/4 cup witch hazel

1/4 cup distilled water

20 drops  melaleuca essential oil

15 drops lemon essential oil

15 drops white fir essential oil

1/2 tsp vitamin E

Place in an 8 ounce glass pump bottle and shake before use.

As much as we try to avoid the chemical offenders, we sometimes do swim toxic soup.  As much as possible,  we should avoid and eliminate those that we have control over.   Starting with the three specific toxins mentioned above is fairly simple because we know where they live.

Realizing that most of us have definitely been exposed, I highly recommend the following gut healing supplement and detoxing supplements as well as the homemade hand sanitizer recipe (below).  If homemade hand sanitizer isn’t in your bandwidth, the product listed below is a great choice.
